SAN BENITO -- San Bento officials today will conduct a second public hearing to consider a draft action plan that could direct more funds to improving parks facilities in the city.
The proposed plan involves using $20,620 of FY 2018-2019 Community Development Block Grant funds for restroom facilities at Landrum Park.
The CDBG allocation is expected to be $406,237, up about $50,000 from last fiscal year.
Current requests for FY 2018-2019 budgeted obligations totaling $395,618 are as follows for designated City projects:
The following public service organizations have submitted funding requests: The Boys and Girls Club, Amigos del Valle, CASA, Maggie’s House and San Benito Housing Authority in the amount of $76,000.
City Manager Manuel De La Rosa said if the funds were divided equally between the five public service organizations, each would receive about $2,000. Instead, he proposed utilizing the remaining $10,620 for park restroom facilities which would benefit the entire San Benito community.
Utilization of the funds in that manner, he said, would help meet other community park needs by extend available dollars in next year’s budget, which again would benefit all residents.
Last year, each of the requesting entities (Boys and Girls Club, Amigos del Valle, CASA, Maggie’s House and Cross Community Development Corp.) was granted $6,000.
At the June 5 City Commission meeting, the first public hearing was conducted on a proposed action plan for use of FY 2018-2019 CDBG funds.
A 30-day comment period on the proposed action plan concludes July 26. The Commission will consider the plan for adoption in August.
