Rosa Canales Perez and Joe Perez are Mexican Americans raised in rural South Texas who use storytelling, poetry, and music to illustrate their cultural experiences.  As retired teachers, they are committed to the idea that cultural diversity is precious and must be preserved through education and the arts. The music from Rumbo al'Anacua keeps the tradition of music performed under the anacua trees, around backyard tables, in dining rooms and on porches throughout South Texas.  From its repertory the duo performs old musica ranchera along with original compositions of blues and folk music.  As self-taught musicians, the interpretation of musica ranchera,  Rumbo al'Anacua evokes a rustic style that speaks of a "voces y guitrras" heritage as it has been preserved among people living north of the Rio Grande. Playing acoustic guitars, they like to say, "Music is too important and too much fun to leave to the professionals."
