Why is my water turned off? This sometimes happens when city personnel have to make emergency repairs to the water system. City staff will try to notify citizens that will be effected in advance, but sometimes this is not possible.
Why is my water rusty or brown when I first turn it on? This can be caused due to old galvanized pipes on the customer’s property or due to city crews performing maintenance on the water system main lines. Running the faucet for a few minutes should take care of this problem. If problem still exists please call Utilities Department at 361-3833, ext. 214.
When I open my faucet, why does the water smell? This is not the water. This sometimes occurs when the running water forces odors out of the trap under the sink. Running hot water with bleach down the drain should eliminate these odors.
Why does my water pressure change? Water pressure varies depending on elevation. The City of San Benito provides pressure using an elevated storage tank (water tower). Periodically city crews open and close valves in the system which result in fluctuation of pressure.
What should I do if I notice a water leak? We would greatly appreciate if you would notify us at (956)361-3833, ext. 214, so we can correct the problem.
