Police Department
Divisions
The San Benito Police Department is composed of three divisions: Support Services, Patrol, and Investigations.
Support Services
The Support Services Department is responsible for providing public assistance, detainee arraignments, maintenance to the police department equipment such as the cameras and vehicles.
Patrol
The Patrol Division is the first to respond to an emergency call. This division responds to service calls for traffic accidents and enforcement as well as performs school and neighborhood patrolling.
Investigations Division
The Investigations Division is composed of the Crisis Negotiation Team, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Special Investigations Unit, and the SWAT Team.
Crisis Negotiation Team
The Crisis Negotiation Team is responsible for attempting to resolve a situation in a peaceful manner.
Criminal Investigations Division
The Criminal Investigations Division is the department responsible for investigating criminal offenses such as auto thefts, sexual crimes and offenses that involve juveniles.
Special Investigations Unit
The Special Investigation Unit has been in operation for seven years in the City of San Benito. This division takes responsibility for crimes that involve gambling, prostitution, narcotics, and homicides. In 2007, the unit seized 319 pills, 308 kilograms of cocaine, 4,996 pounds of marijuana, 31 vehicles, and $1,208,000 in U.S. currency.
