First library card is free and can be obtained by providing a completed application.
- You must show 2 proofs of address when you update or get a new card. Usually this will be a Texas ID or driver’s license and a utility bill.
- If you are going to use the Internet, you must also read the Internet Acceptance Use Policy.
- You will be responsible; you will pay for books, materials, and fines on your card or your child’s card.
Eligibility
San Benito Public Library cards are available free of charge to all persons providing proper identification.
Expiration
Library cards are good for two years.
Responsibility
Patrons are responsible for all materials checked out on their cards. If the card is lost or stolen, it is the responsibility of the patron to notify the Library in writing within seven calendar days. Otherwise, the patron will be responsible for all materials checked out on their card. Cardholders will not allow anyone else to use their card.
Requirements
Applicants for a card must be 18 years of age or older (see Juvenile card for Juvenile requirements) and must present a picture I.D. plus proof of their current address, such as a current utility bill or lease agreement.
Lost / Damaged / Stolen Cards
There will be a $5 charge to replace Library cards that are lost, stolen or damaged. A new card will not be issued if the patron has outstanding fines, overdue materials or other debts at the Library.
Renewal
There is no charge to renew a Library card. The Patron must show the same type of I.D. as stated above and must not have any outstanding fines, overdue materials or other debts at the Library.
Juvenile Cards
Any one under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian must present the same identification and proof of residency as stated above under “Requirements.” Juvenile cardholders are restricted from checking out DVD’s or Blu-Ray’s.
Winter Texans
Winter Texans must present a picture I.D. and proof of the current address and their permanent address.
