Purpose of a Police K-9 Criminal Interdiction Unit

The Criminal Interdiction Unit (Police K-9) is commanded by Lieutenant Michael Cortez and Sergeant Elizabeth Cantu. The unit consists of one police service dog and one community policing K-9 Officer, Hector Lopez . The Interdiction Unit conducts both inter-city and highway interdiction of vehicles and persons responsible for human trafficking, transporting illegal narcotics and illegal weapons or U.S. Currency into the City of San Benito. They also augment the Patrol Division with vehicle searches, building and open area searches, suspect and missing person’s tracks as well as suspect apprehension.
