The Patrol Division is commanded by Captain Michael Cortez. The command structure is comprised of 4 Lieutenants and 4 Sergeants who supervise approximately 23 officers. They are split between 4 rotating teams.

Roles

The Patrol Division is comprised of uniformed officers focused on Patrol and Traffic enforcement. The Patrol Division is responsible for a 24 hour, seven day a week patrol of approximately 15.79 square miles within the City of San Benito and is the largest single division within the Police Department. Police officers assigned to this section provide service primarily via marked patrol vehicles.

In addition to being a first responder to all criminal calls, the Patrol Division also addresses a myriad of other calls that include complaints, providing information, enforcement of traffic ordinances and crime prevention. This section has the primary responsibility for the department's effort to preserve peace, protect life and property, and the prevention and suppression of crime.

Responsibilities

Officers assigned to the Patrol Division are responsible for initial response, review, and documentation of all police incidents, traffic safety programs, accident investigations, fatal traffic accident and traffic crime investigations, traffic complaint problem solving and resolution, general traffic enforcement, and community event support missions.

The primary mission of the Patrol Division is to reduce crime through enforcement of the law and to mitigate injuries and deaths caused by traffic collisions in the community. Preventative patrols, pro-active enforcement, community education, analysis of traffic collision data, investigation of traffic collisions and active problem solving are used to accomplish this mission.
