The City of San Benito owns and operates the San Benito Memorial Park Cemetery at 2060 N. Sam Houston Blvd. and the now-closed San Benito Historic City Cemetery, also known as "El Nopal."

Office hours: Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Office closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and on holidays observed by the City of San Benito.

Burial & Visitation Information

Cemetery grounds are open daily for pedestrian traffic from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Entry gates will be open on the day of scheduled interment services for vehicular traffic.
Cemetery grounds are closed daily from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

No interments, dis-interments, or grave marker installations shall be allowed in the cemetery on any Sunday or City-observed holidays. Contact City Hall  for information on holiday closure dates.

Burials require an advance notice of two business days (16 working hours) prior to time of interment.

Notice for opening a grave for Saturday interment shall be provided not later than 12:00 p.m. on the Thursday preceding the burial.

Burial Requirements 

Cemetery Ordinance 2464-B standards will apply to San Benito Memorial Park Cemetery.
Please see Ordinance 2464-C for amended costs/fees.

Outer burial containers (vaults) are required for each plot.

 All fees must be paid in full before the City will allow a burial. The outer burial container (liner), and the grave marker (tombstone) must be purchased, and documentation of these purchases must be submitted to City of San Benito City Hall office for confirmation.

Flat grave monuments/markers are required for each plot, to measure 12 inches by 24 inches  or 12-inches by 36 inches.

Near Freddy Fender Memorial Placement:
Burial sites located to either side of the Freddy Fender Memorial (Phase 1, Block 1 and 2):
Adult Size 4x9-feet: $2,000.00
Oversize: Requires purchase of two 4 feet x 9 feet plots

Burial Plots All Others:
Adult size 4x9-feet: $950.00
Oversize: Requires purchase of two 4 feet x 9 feet plots.
Child size 40 inches x 24 inches: $195.00
Urn 24x18-inches: $195.00
Double urns 24x30-inches: $390.00

Opening & Closing:
Adult size 4x9-feet: $650.00
Oversize: Any size over 4 feet x 9 feet: $850.00
Child size 40 inches x 24 inches: $300.00
Urn 24x18-inches: $300.00
Double urns 24x30-inches: $300.00
Grave Monument/Marker Fee $50.00

San Benito Historic Cemetery "El Nopal"

Burial plots are no longer being sold at "El Nopal."
