Backflow Prevention/Cross-Connection
Backflow is the undesirable reversal of flow into the potable water system. Potable water is defined as water that is safe for human consumption as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).Since the City of San Benito water purveyor has primary responsibility for the protection and quality of the water in the public water supply system. Customer is required to follow the water purveyor's guidelines to protect the public water supply.
In accordance with Ordinance 2253 a Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB) must be installed on all landscape irrigation systems connected to the City of San Benito distribution system. The backflow assembly must be tested annually by a TCEQ licensed backflow tester registered with the City of San Benito and a Test and Maintenance Report must be submitted to our office.
A cross- connection is a physical connection between a public water system and either another supply of unknown or questionable quality, any source which may contain contaminating or polluting substances, or any source of water treated to a lesser degree in the treatment process.
