Autism Awareness Walk approved here
San Benito City officials have approved partnering with the local school district for the 12th Annual Autism Awareness Walk at Heavin Resaca Trail on April 5.
“Traditionally, this event provides the San Benito community with autism awareness activities and acknowledges April as National Autism Awareness month,” said Luis D. Gonzales, Jr., SBCISD district coordinator for family and community engagement.
Gonzales said the district is interested in continuing the collaboration and partnership with the City in an event that brings the community together and collectively demonstrates support for students and families living with autism.
“By creating this partnership, the school district and the City can utilize all of our available resources to produce another great autism community event,” Gonzales said.
In approving the request, the City Commission approved the district’s use of the Heavin Memorial Park and Amphitheater, concession stands and restrooms, as well as limited police, fire and EMS personnel onsite.
