According to the latest United States Drought Monitor, Exceptional (D4) drought conditions have developed and increased in area across western Jim Hogg, portions of western Starr, and extreme eastern Zapata counties. Also Extreme (D3) drought conditions have expanded across east central Kenedy and northeastern Brooks counties, as well as continued across western Willacy, southeastern Kenedy, northern Hidalgo, majority of Starr, and the remainder of Zapata County, Brooks, and Jim Hogg counties. Moderate (D1) drought is continuing across southeastern Kenedy, eastern Willacy, and central to eastern Cameron counties.
